WICHITA NONPROFIT MOVES INTO CENTURY-OLD DELANO BUILDING

A two-story, 100-year-old brick building in Delano, which had most recently been Crawley’s Office Furniture and had once housed a second-floor bowling alley, has a new use as an office for a long-standing nonprofit organization.

Located at 624 W. Douglas Ave., at the northeast corner of Douglas and Oak Street, the building now serves as an office and event space for the Wichita office of Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters, which relocated there in summer 2022 from its longtime space at 2nd and Broadway.

“Over the last five or six years, we had a big transformation of our work culture and how we serve people in our programs, and so we absolutely wanted a place that was more reflective of that culture,” said Brandon Russell, who is chief operating officer at the nonprofit.

The organization leases the space from Hutton, which had purchased the building shortly after Crawley’s closed in 2015 and had been restoring and trying to find a tenant for it ever since.
